Pahelo Batti Muni

                      Pahelo Batti Muni

Pahelo Batti Muni is an indie pop band formed in the year 2015 consisting of 5 members with Rochak Dahal on vocals. The band was named Pahelo Batti Muni as the lead singer Rochak and guitarist Pravesh used to jam under the yellow light of candles during the load shedding days.

They released their first single in the year 2016 named Bari LaiBari Lai which Rochak Dahal wrote for his niece as a gift  after she was born. The band released their first album named Asthir shortly after releasing their single which consisted of eight songs of different genres including rock, and folk-pop.

All of  the songs of the first  are written by Rochak Dahal. All the songs are portrayed from Rochak’s perspective with a deep meaning as well as absurdity.Songs like Bichitra,BichitraAaina ra Daag Aaina ra Daag depict the story of our society, god and politics.

Songs like Tateypatey BhittaTateypatey Bhitta and Ma Bato HideyjhaiMa Bato Hideyjhai portray the personal story of Rochak Dahal himself as an individual and an artist. Tateypatey Bhitta is not much about the lovers but about a person not being able to live up to the expectations of his/her loved ones around him/her. And the song Ma Bato Hideyjhai is a story of an artist which  includes the phase an artist goes through during his career. The feeling of being stuck, feeling that they are not going anywhere, and  doubting themselves and their dreams. All the side effects of being an artist who wants to do better are projected in the song.

When asked about his writing process/motivation  Rochak answered “Every song has a different story or inspiration behind it.More often than not ,they are driven by reflections of personal circumstances or experiences”.Additionally there is song named Aaina ra and there is this lyrics “तिमीले प्रसाद नचढाए  गुलियोको स्वाद नै थाहा हुन्नथियो  “ which I first thought was from god's perspective but Rochak Dahal corrected me as he said that”it  was never from the gods perspective but it was to depict that the corrupt ones are not the one who are in power  and the system/culture of people that puts them there is questionable “.

When asked about any backlashes due to direct and indirect attacks on the political system and certain beliefs of people in the songs, Aaina ra Daag Rochak answered” never experienced any because it was a metaphor and had nothing to do with gods in this instance although it could sound like it.

Pahelo Batti Muni is one of those bands that stand out through their  uniqueness in music and lyrics in every song. The latest single release of theirs Agyani and Year of the blood moon  have received good feedback from the audience.
