                          PREFACE

This assignment gives an insight into the same news which is about the earthquake that happened recently in Turkey on 6th Feb 2023.

It helps to know how the same news is published through various mediums and how it is presented to the audience. The assignment will help to analyze the various ways through which the news is published and will also help interpret the content provided by them.

                    Introduction

News is the information or report about current events[Cambridge Dictionary]. News covers all the major incidents that took place in a day or so through various mediums such as newspapers, radio, online portals, and television. These mediums cover all the major news and it depends on their publishing time and how briefly or deeply they have covered the news. For instance, radio covers the news within minutes after the incident. Due to this, they cannot provide details of that particular incident.

The same goes with online portals but they can edit their news timely and briefly after gathering more information. Newspapers are published daily so they also get enough time to cover the topic in detail. News published on television have the same case as radio but special/dedicated programs covering the same topic can cover all the aspects of the incident with more information.

News Published Through Online Portal

Online portals publish news within minutes of its happening. The same day when the earthquake took place ekantipur published an article about the earthquake. On 6th February, the article was published. Screenshots of the article are given below. The article has been updated after more information was gathered about the incident.

News Presented On Radio

The same day when the incident took place Ujyaalo Radio Network aired the news at 8:00 am. The snippet was of exactly 8 seconds where the news presenter said that  “More than 2000 people have lost their lives in the earthquake that happened in Turkey today. And more than 6000 people have been injured. Treatment of the injured ones and search  is going on.”

News Presented in Newspaper

Gorkhapatra Daily  published the news regarding the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

News Presented Through Television

Nepal Television aired the news of the earthquake which happened in Turkey and Syria. The clip was about two minutes long. The news presenter first explained the incident and mentioned that 1700 people died and many were injured. There were back-to-back 2 earthquakes of 6.3 and 7.8 magnitudes in a 9 hours gap. A few pictures and videos were also there in the clip showing the destruction caused by the earthquake. The news presenter also mentioned that Turkey has declared a state of emergency and is asking for foreign aid. At last, the anchor said that Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda had also tweeted regarding the earthquake.

Final Interpretation

After closely observing the same news presented through these mediums. We can conclude that mediums which publish shortly after the incident took place cannot properly cover all the aspects of the incident.Whereas mediums which take time to dig deep into the topic can present the news more briefly. So the release time of news is a great factor here. And also the presentation of news  and the information provided through these mediums are very distinct.
